What are some good, filling foods for a teen boy working outside all day?

I know this may sound weird, but a quiche or a fritatta holds-up well if you can carry a small cooler. They have tons of protein, the quiche crust has your carbs, and since you want variety you can change ingredients as you wish. You could make a few on your day off and they'll last the week.
