Girl told my roommates she wanted to break up with me but be my buddy, what does it mean?

I kind of took it as good news, bad news. I am a tall, kind of good looking guy, in a doctoral program. I am an admittedly boring guy. My girl is very outgoing. She told my roommates that was why she wanted to take a break. Because in a year and a half I will have Dr. in front of my name, I have always been afraid that that drew women to me that might not want me if I wasn't doing what I'm doing. Does the fact that she doesn't want to date me but she still wants to have mean that I am at least a satisfactory lover?
